BOISE, Idaho –
Following the initial launch of The Horseshoe Collective, the nonprofit organization has extended its philanthropic reach to include the Boise State men’s basketball program, the collective’s board of directors announced Friday.
The Horseshoe Collective, which was originally launched with the Broncos’ football program, endeavors to raise awareness for local charitable causes by pairing them with community-minded Boise State student-athletes seeking to use their Name, Image, and Likeness to make a positive impact in our community.
Contributions to The Horseshoe Collective are considered charitable donations due to the organization’s 501 (c)(3) status.
The Horseshoe Collective’s board of directors includes Clint Bolinder, Torry McAlvain, Kevin McDonald, and Mark Miller. Former Boise State Associate Director of Athletics Joe Nickell, one of the architects of the Broncos’ nationally-recognized NIL program, is serving as executive director of The Horseshoe Collective, running the organization’s day-to-day operations.
“The Horseshoe Collective will provide incredible opportunities for the young men that choose to become Broncos,” Boise State men’s basketball head coach Leon Rice said. “This is a great avenue for our community to impact our student-athletes and for our student-athletes to impact the community. I appreciate the efforts of the board of directors for getting this organization off the ground, and for Joe Nickell taking the reins and starting to build something that will significantly shape our future.”
“I’m grateful The Horseshoe Collective has expanded its reach to our men’s basketball program,” Boise State Director of Athletics Jeramiah Dickey said. “Our community looks up to our student-athletes competing for our programs, and the impact The Horseshoe Collective will have on our ability to engage with Bronco Nation cannot be understated.”
The Horseshoe Collective was launched to bolster the NIL efforts of Boise State Athletics, which garnered the award for Best Institutional NIL Program at the Inaugural NIL Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame this past June. The Best Institutional NIL Program Award was bestowed to the institution that had shown exceptional commitment to supporting its student-athletes in maximizing their name, image, and likeness opportunities through a combination of education, resources, and industry-leading innovation.
“The community response following the launch of The Horseshoe Collective was nothing short of phenomenal,” Nickell said. “The future for this organization is incredibly bright, and I believe Bronco Nation will be proud of what it is able to accomplish. Boise State has proven itself as an institution at the forefront of this new era of collegiate athletics, and we look forward to continued growth with Bronco Athletics and to finding ways for student-athletes to connect with our community.”
